Mongolia is one of the four countries (Mongolia, Cambodia, Laos, and Bhutan) covered by the CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION REGIONAL MODERNIZATION PROJECT 2020-2023 of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The project provides technical assistance to enhance Mongolian Customs capacity in areas such as Customs Strategic planning, Authorized Economic Operator, Post-Clearance Audit, Customs Laboratories, Change management and Project management and in other areas as well.

Notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic and closure of the border, the Mongolian Customs has had several meetings with senior IMF officials remotely (virtually) to discuss matters relating to the above-mentioned areas including issues of organizational risk management and compliance management.

Within the framework of cooperation, the last meeting was held on 31 March 2021 to discuss on “the current status of Customs control, inspection and clearance and their coordination; Post-clearance audit" and other topics. The meeting or the joint discussion was organized successfully with active participation of IMF and Customs Administration officials.

The meeting also discussed the outcomes of the works done in 2020, exchanged views on the modalities of work in 2021 and decided on the date of holding the next meeting.
